There is an old Greek proverb that reads, “A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.” Likewise, I strongly believe a society grows strong when we take good care of our children’s education, because without education there is no future, is there? This is why I’m worried about President Milei’s somewhat disdainful attitude towards public education in Argentina. And also towards scientific research. There are flaws in the public education system, that’s undeniable. We need to sort the wheat from the chaff, the valuable from the worthless. But let’s admit that most of us owe everything to public education. Maybe the fact that Milei has always studied at private schools and universities, explains his scornful and contemptuous attitude towards Argentine public system. Who knows …
