“Brasil must not become a gay tourism paradise”, said Jair Bolsonaro. “If you want to come here and have sex with a woman, go for your life, but we can’t let this place become known as a gay tourism paradise. Brazil can’t be a country of the gay world, of gay tourism. We have families.” Mind you, he’s not anyone. Bolsonaro is a head of state. A LGBT activist, Renan Quinalha, reacted: “It is a disastrous declaration, both from the human rights point of view and with regards to Brazil’s international image.” In Bolsonaro’s eyes, the only genuine families are the heterosexual ones. Isn’t this preposterous? His homophobia is so evident, so shameless, so unacceptable, so outdated. He’s such a dangerous guy, promoting violence, hatred, discrimination. Not a nice neighbor. Far from it.
