More than ever, George Orwell’s “Big Brother” (“1984”) seems to be watching us all. This government plays that role. Watching every step we take, every move we make, as the song goes. This excessive control mania looks so out of place in a 21st century democracy, so outdated, so anachronic, that cannot be rationally accounted for. It’s inevitable to sense a growing and ominous sense of lack of freedom. Those of us who have lived through (and survived) the dark years of the military regime in Argentina, share a “deja vu” feeling, absurd in this context, obviously, but understandable, anyway. We are grown up citizens. We know what our rights and duties are.We don’t need to be told what to do and how to do it, as if we were kindergarten children. The Government shouldn’t underestimate us. As simple as that.
