Marina Simian, a scientist from Argentina’s CONICET research body, has won 500.000 pesos on the local version of “Who wants to be a millionaire?” So far, this piece of news shouldn’t call our attention. What really struck us all is what she intends to do with the prize. She will use it to support a project she’s involved in, looking into cancer treatment. So, all of a sudden, we witness the telly replacing the State. Similar to the “dreams” dancers represent in Tinelli´s program. We see images of poor people starving for basic things, such as electricity, running water, sewage system, paved roads, decent housing, schools in proper conditions. Poverty and lack of resources turned into a show. If I were a public official, I’d feel utterly ashamed. But they’re busy campaigning. Do not disturb. Sigh …
