Opening cans of worms… The maxim “divide et impera” (divide and rule) has been attributed to Philip II of Macedon. It was utilized by the Roman ruler Julius Caesar and the French emperor Napoleon. For some reason, this seems to be Javier Milei’s motto too. All Argentine political parties seem to be imploding. Lack of undisputed leaders, conflicting interests, payback time, old grudges, you name it. Meanwhile, Milei’s disputable chainsaw style, his “no pain, no gain” policy, his brutal frankness and outspoken discourse, “divides and reigns” and seems to enjoy watching this opposition mud-wrestling. Maybe he’s thinking: ‘It’s good fishing in troubled waters…’ Who knows?
