Last Wednesday evening, Archbishop Jorge García Cuerva opened up the Metropolitan Cathedral, located quite close to the Pink House, to feed poor people.“Pour la galerie,” if I may say. Quite theatrical indeed. All of a sudden, the Catholic Church and the Pope himself have realised that there’s hunger and extreme poverty in Argentina. For the last few decades, they seemed not to notice it. Weird, isn’t it? Fishy. Here’s an idea: since there are so many homeless citizens in Buenos Aires and it’s getting cold, why not offer them shelter and food in the hundreds of churches spread all over the city? On a regular basis I mean, not as an opportunistic «mise-en-scene». Another personal wish: couldn’t we have a secular state with no official religion in the near future? Just day dreaming…
