The ‘Ficha Limpia’ (“Clean record”) anti-corruption bill has just been backed by the Chamber of Deputies. Peronists in general and Kirchnerites in particular love victimising themselves, stating that they are being “proscribed.” Actually, this bill only affects people with confirmed corruption convictions in the second instance, blocking them from running for public office, which sounds quite rational and sensible. I mean, before hiring someone with such a background, anyone of us would think twice, right? Public officials seem to forget that they are our employees, our public servants. We pay their high salaries. Therefore, we have the right to choose candidates with no criminal records. As simple as that. Let’s see what the Senate says now, where Peronism is in the majority. Let’s not count our chickens before they hatch. ¡No cantemos victoria… yet!
