Pepe Mujica said recently in an interview: «There’s the old [Fernández de] Kirchner in Argentina, at the head of Peronism. Instead of being an elderly mentor and leaving new generations to it, no, she goes screwing around. How difficult it is for her to let the pie go! What a bitch!» It’s not the first time Mujica has referred to CFK in these terms. In 2013, without realizing that there was an open microphone in front of him, we heard him say: «That old woman is worse than the one-eyed one (Néstor), who was more political while she is more stubborn.» The Uruguayan politician has shot his mouth off at least twice. Then he apologized for being so rude, but obviously that’s his crystal clear opinion of our former President. Truth to tell, many of us couldn’t agree more. It’s hard to grasp why Cristina Fernández isn’t willing to step aside and leave room for fresh blood, new and younger leaders. Her narcissism and self-centredness seem almost pathological. She behaves like a “prima donna”, an extremely temperamental former super star, with an inflated view of her own talent and importance. She refuses to leave the limelight and become a “political corpse”. Still alive and kicking Néstor’s widow. Some people never find the right time to quit. Sigh …
