
Back in the dark mid-1970s in Argentina, during the military dictatorship, there were some people who justified the fact that there were more and more “missing people,” as if it was their fault. “Algo habrán hecho,” they said; “Maybe they deserved it.” Likewise, whenever a woman is raped or murdered in this country, there’s a tendency to investigate the victim rather than the perpetrator. “She was wearing a mini skirt, she had it coming,” etc. Now, after this narco-linked triple feminicide (Lara, Brenda & Morena), the victims and their families have come under scrutiny. They are not to blame, are they? Why not focus on the monsters who tortured, killed and buried them? And on the authorities who told their relatives to wait 48 hours more before reporting their disappearance? First things first. Everything is out of control on this drifting ship. Sigh…
