Another “master class” by Lionel Scaloni and his boys. I’m not a football fan myself, but every time I see them playing or I listen to the manager of Argentina’s national team, I can’t help wondering why on earth we have such good sportsmen, on the one hand, and such lousy politicians, on the other. Not only sportsmen, mind you. We can boast of outstanding scientists, artists, writers, journalists, researchers – you name it. But our political class as a whole leaves so much to be desired. I wish there were more Scalonis in positions of power. I admire his common sense, his modesty, his deliberate low profile, his sense of team-work, the way he inspires his players. He is undoubtedly a role model, a unique example of an extinct species in a world torn apart by greediness, vanity, egotistical meanness, and irrational violence. I would advise our President, our Congress members, our public officials, our mayors and governors, and the opposition too, to take classes with Lionel Scaloni, and see if our impoverished country manages to catch up with his successful team.
