
The provincial legislative elections are just round the corner. Will there be “testimonial candidacies” – that is, “candidates who appear on a ticket to gather more votes but that will later not take on the role they were elected for”? That would be cheating, right? Take Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s “alter ego,” Quilmes Mayor Mayra Mendoza, for instance. She’s competing in the third electoral district, one of the most populous in the province. If she gets a seat in the provincial legislature, guess who will replace her? Nobody less than the “excrement-pitcher” Eva Mieri. No surprise. Metaphorica lly speaking, that’s what most of our so called “representatives” do, apart from asking for a salary rise from time to time, as if they earned a little. As we say in Spanish: “Para muestra basta un botón.” It’s what it is … sigh…
