
Last Sunday, March 8, was International Women’s Day. Google tells me: “Since 1911, IWD belongs to all who care about gender equality, celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness about discrimination, take action to forge gender parity.” I guess Mayor Cali Goring (Colonia Aurora, Misiones Province) hasn’t the faintest idea about this issue, and still lives in the Middle Ages. What gifts did he give the local women? Buckets, brooms, cleaning supplies, etc. Unbelievable but true. He obviously thinks that’s our main role in life. We shouldn’t study, pursue a career, build a professional life. Having kids, raising them, keeping the house tidy, laundering, ironing and cooking should be more than enough. Moreover, maybe what he really meant with those broomsticks was providing the local “witches” with a means of transport. If I were one of them, I’d light a bonfire opposite the Town Hall and burn his IWD shameful presents. Sigh …
