When I turned on the TV and saw President Milei, in black leather, roaring and singing at the top of his voice like a rock star at the Movistar Arena, I thought it was a false scene generated by Artificial Intelligence. It took me some time to realise that I was wrong: it was real. What on earth was he celebrating? José Luis Espert’s resignation due to alleged links to drug-trafficking? Or the blow the government suffered last September in the Buenos Aires Province elections? Where does he live? In Narnia? What “miracle” is he talking about? Has he lost absolute touch with reality? Is this a case of feigned madness? Is he a bigoted denier? Is Milei day-dreaming? During his 2023 presidential campaign, his rock-star role might have helped him win the elections. But that honeymoon is over. Two years later, he has lost support even amidst his own followers. It’s not “party time,” Mr President; nothing to be happy about or proud of. On the contrary. We’re all very worried about the fate of this country, about our own fate. In the dark once again. Sigh…
