Have we been cheated once again? Is this Argentina’s tragic fate? We all know Milei won the last presidential election only because we were fed up with Kirchnerism and were looking forward to a change. We were fed up with corrupt politicians, with the so-called “casta,” with soaring inflation, soaring poverty and rising crime. Milei was an outsider; he looked like someone who could make a difference, someone in favour of “mani pulite,” someone who would fight fraud, misconduct, bribery. An old Poxipol glue commercial comes to mind: “And now what?” I mean, after the ANDIS national disability agency graft scandal… what? After Diego Spagnuolo’s audio recordings, referring to bribes and kickbacks… what? After the alleged implications about Milei’s sister and ‘Lule’ Menem… what? Can we still believe in the President’s good intentions? Is this another Kirchnerite operation, just before the midterm elections, as he suggests? Who knows? The truth is that our disappointment and hopelessness seems endless. I’m afraid Poxipol can’t put all these shattered pieces together. Sigh…
